Homecoming 2021 Info – ver. 1

Marching Mizzou Alumni Band

Homecoming 2021 is the weekend of Oct. 9-10 as the Tigers take on the North Texas Mean Green. The theme is “A Reason to Roar.” Please join us to participate in the pre-game performance and to cheer on the Tigers. Or, if you cannot attend or are unable to march, there are other ways to lend your support.

Registration will open in early August. Please check back later.

We will have several options this year at Homecoming to support the ongoing activities of the M2AB. Registration is only $15 this year for any type of participation and there are four participation options:

  • On-field marcher–marches on the field during the pre-game

  • Sideline marcher–play along from the sideline during pre-game, no marching

  • Attending Homecoming, but not marching on the field or playing on the sideline

  • Virtual marcher-not able to attend or participate this year, but want to lend your support

FRIDAY NIGHT SCHEDULE

We gather at that old campus hangout, The Heidelberg, at 6 pm for an informal family gathering. You may purchase your own food and beverages, if you wish, and you’ll be able to pick up your name tag and shirt, if you pre-ordered one. Hang around for as long as you want before you head to campus for house decs and other activities on your own.

GAME DAY SCHEDULE

Game time could be announced as late as 7 days prior to kickoff, subject to the granting of television broadcast rights. The table below shows the most common times for the schedule of events (this is subject to change, depending on Marching Mizzou’s parade and practice schedule). Television coverage will determine game time and will likely be announced 7-13 days before Homecoming.

PLAY ALONG IN THE STANDS WITH MARCHING MIZZOU

Dr. Knopps is again allowing alumni who would like to play along with Marching Mizzou on “the old standards” to sit with the band in their section. From feedback last year, many asked for separate a la carte registration to keep the basic registration cost down, so this option is offered to you as a $5 upgrade to your basic activity fee. You will sit with the band in your own respective instrument section to continue socializing with the students and exercising your chops. We should all appreciate the support of Dr. Knopps for the alumni band. You will have to indicate when you register if you are interested in this add-on and YOU MUST PURCHASE A GAME TICKET! Please, only those who are playing their instrument will be allowed to sit with Marching Mizzou. Other family members and friends who purchase a ticket in our block will be asked to sit in that section behind the band.

COMMEMORATIVE T-SHIRT

This is the commemorative t-shirt we’re selling this year during registration. Our order deadline is October 1, so if you’re registering after October 1 and ordering a t-shirt, it might not be available to pick up at Homecoming. In that case, it will be mailed to you after Homecoming. T-shirts are $10.

GAME DAY LUNCH

Rather than including the box lunch in the activity fee, it’s a $10 optional purchase this year. Some time around rehearsal and before going over to the stadium, we’ll pause to eat. Exactly when that will be is determined by the game time, to be announced later. This time would give you a chance to mingle with your alumni band friends while you eat. You can reserve your lunch when you register.

GAME TICKETS

We will use the same process for purchasing game tickets as last year. THE ALUMNI BAND WILL NOT BE SELLING TICKETS FOR THE GAME, but we have arranged a special group rate for tickets in section 110 (formerly sections SS and TT) just behind Marching Mizzou. Tickets are $40 each and MUST BE PURCHASED DIRECTLY FROM THE MIZZOU TICKET OFFICE. Once registration opens, there will be a link on this page to purchase tickets. You can purchase as many tickets at this special rate as you would like.

YOU DO NOT NEED TO PURCHASE A GAME TICKET IF ALL YOU WANT TO DO IS MARCH PREGAME. WE WILL EXIT THE STADIUM AFTER OUR PERFORMANCE AND YOU MAY THEN RE-ENTER WITH A GAME TICKET OR ENJOY THE REST OF THE DAY AT YOUR LEISURE.

You can purchase you tickets now by clicking on this link:

CHECK-IN

Check-in will be at the Marching Mizzou practice field at a time TBA.

For those who have registered, simply pick up your name tag and Alumni Band polo shirt, if you ordered one.  We’ll also provide fruit, water, drinks, and snacks at check-in. Limited numbers of large instruments (ONLY sousaphones, baritones, mellophones, drums) and flags will be available to borrow that day. You will need to bring your own mouthpiece or drumsticks if using a University instrument.

PARKING and SHUTTLE

Parking near the stadium, Hearnes Center, and the practice field (southeast of Hearnes on the road to the university president’s house) is nearly impossible to do unless you’re a season ticket holder and a donor to the Tiger Scholarship Fund. The closest parking garage is Parking Structure #7 on Hospital Drive across the street from University Hospital.  The parking fee there is $30.

Due to the lack of affordable parking near the stadium, M2AB will offer a FREE shuttle for marchers and their families from the west side of the Virginia Avenue Garage directly to the practice field. The shuttle will run on a continuous loop beginning about an hour before practice. There is FREE parking in that garage. Do not park on the street in a metered spot as meters are enforced all day on Saturday. Any questions, contact Bill Moyes (573) 268-1086. THERE IS NO RETURN SHUTTLE AFTER THE GAME!!

REHEARSAL

Rehearsal will be at the M2 practice field southeast of the Hearnes Center.  Alcoholic beverages are not permitted during rehearsal and children are not allowed on the field during our performance at the stadium.

LUNCH and BUSINESS MEETING

The business meeting will be held either at the Hearnes Center or at the practice field before the game. After everyone has food, we will meet to review the weekend, discuss plans, and introduce the new board members for 2022.

THE EQUIPMENT TRUCK

One of our greatest additions to the Homecoming experience is our equipment truck. The truck will be available as a place you can store your instrument cases and small personal items at the start of rehearsal so that they will be available near the stadium after our pregame performance. The truck will be secured throughout the game as well, giving your instrument a safe home until the end of the game. University-owned instruments will also be returned here after pregame.

MUSIC

Everyone who registers will receive their music by email directly from Hadley.  If you don’t receive it soon after you register, contact Hadley Haux by e-mail at hhaux@sbcglobal.net or by phone at (314) 521-8593.  Hadley brings few, if any, additional copies of the music to the practice field.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS ELECTION

One last thing. After you register and pay for your registration, you will be sent a link to go to a page where you can vote for the candidates of your choice for the M2AB Board of Directors. You can view photos and background information on each candidate here (later).
